ACTIVITIES OF THE ITALIAN PARTNER

You’ve got a friend is the motto of Michelangelo Secondary school (Scordia, Sicily) students who are participating in the Comenius Project.  This year the project intends to awaken and attract young people to the universe of voluntary work.  In a consumer society, where the indifference towards the difficulties and the needs of those who are less fortunate often dominates uncontested, it is a special chance to occupy and make young people aware of their responsibilities.
To start their journey in the world of voluntary work, on the 9th of February, 2012, the students and some teachers engaged in the Project went to the Association TRA NOI in Scordia.  It was undoubtedly an out of ordinary afternoon.  They received a very warm welcome from Mrs. Rosaria Lopez Tirrò, the young voluntary workers and the children there for after-school activities.  Michelangelo students donated the funds they had raised, but they also helped the children who were grappling with Geography, History and Maths. After that, they celebrated together.  The expression of gratitude on the faces of those who live in poverty left an indelible mark in the students and in those who accompanied them.  It was a joyful experience with a profound meaning that made students understand the immense meaning of the words communion and solidarity.  Children of TRA NOI,   You’ve got a friend!
